It has a thin, long, and blunt tip that measures the pocket depth around the tooth to assess the health of the periodontium. The instrument is engraved with marks on its tip for legibility and greater precision. Explorer 6 is used for calculus and caries detection, furcations, exploration of pocket depth, and restorations.
